I am lost!

Sunday, June 26, 2005

Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing here? have I really forgotten the answers to these questions. I don't know... I can't think!!!

This has been a demanding week and it just doesn't seem to end. The coming week is equally taxing and I just saw my deliverables (assignments and cases) for this term and the busy schedule stretches on till the end. Would I have the energy to go through these for another 9 months... I hope so and time would give a definitive answer. The one thing I would repent at the end of it is that I don't have the time to sit back and think what I am doing when I am doing it.

Longest day at ISB

Wednesday, June 22, 2005

22nd June 2005 - I can't believe I am still alive after attending lectures from 11 am till 8.30 pm today... I don't even know whether I am mentally tired or physically tired!! I guess I haven't blogged for about a week now. This week has been really demanding and its just half over... for a change, we have 6 days classes instead of the usual 4... so the coming weekend is shortened to just one day. But assignments and cases seem to be flowing non-stop... soon i would forget which case was dealing with which product! Fortunately or unfortunately, I have already fudged the line between the courses this term and using each learning(!) in other courses.

A special mention about our DMO (Decision Models and optimization) Prof. Anjani Jain from Wharton. His classes are so humorous that even after the long hours of lectures, he kept us awake at the end of the day... He takes time to explain even the basic concepts. The course is very interesting and now I am repenting for neglecting the courses - Operations research and Optimization - in BITS, where I used to hate numbers. Here, its about understanding the concept and doing the analyses and the numbers are done by the software... so I am making an effort to learn these concepts atleast now and I am enjoying it.

Even with all the hectic schedule, I actually liking the life out here... Its nice to take a break, when you don't have the time to take it :-) The only thing that I miss out here and one of the things I love the most... My sleep...zzz

Term-2 has begun...

Friday, June 17, 2005

... so what is new? This term's courses are Global Economics(taken by Ravi Bansal and Krishna Kumar), Competitive Strategy(taken by Akbar Zaheer and Harbir Singh), Marketing Decision Making(taken by Jagmohan Raju) and Decision Models and Optimisation(taken by Anjani Jain and Ziv Katalan).

We have just finished classes for week-1... We had only one class per day (GE and CS only) as the other professors have not yet come to campus. This is going to increase the burden for next week as we have three classes in one of the days. Last term, we had a regular schedule for all the weeks. But this time, we have classes on random days and random number of classes on each day!! It is so difficult to stick to a schedule for sleep or other activities for the day!

In addition, we have marks for class participation in all the courses this term. So cannot afford to go to class without reading the material. We have cases to analyse for all the CS classes. The courses this term are interesting to learn but I am already dreading the idea of writing exams for any of these.

Today, the Gachibulls (Section-B) had a party. I cut the cake as I am the youngest in my section(or the kid as they call it)! There were a lot of games organised with music and snacks... kudos to the organisers and our section-rep for putting in the effort. Tomorrow we have the GSB party right outside my room... long time since we had one... so should be good to get to the dance floor again!

Sleep is Bliss..zzz

Where have I been in my term break?

It was just two months since I last had a 4 day break but this period had tired me enough to sleep 15 hours per day for 3 continuous days!!! Yes, thats all I did in my term break and here I am, back at ISB and have already started Term-2.... thats too fast (as usual!)

Has it been just one day into the term and just one class into the term? Do I have the energy to sustain 7 more gruelling terms? I do hope that I either have it or I get it. I got my Economics answer papers (term-1) today and I really hope that was the worst of the four papers I have given. Actually, this was the worst paper I gave... so I should not be cribbing about it... but then, its all relative out here. Hopefully I do better in MacroEconomics this term... Life goes on with Hopes

Okie, other than all the usual courses happening from today, yesterday I watched the Canadian GrandPrix in the big screen here (sponsored by KingFisher). Last Year I had watched all the grandprixs inbetween my CAT preps and cheered Schumi to the podium all the time... but this year, unfortunately, Ferrari has not been doing that well :( Yesterday's race was good to watch because of the constant change of fortunes for the teams and I was so happy to see Ferrari taking 2-3 podium positions (though I would have been happy to see Schumi winning it... may be in the US)... Hail Ferrari!

Yee...Yaa...Hoo!!!

Tuesday, June 07, 2005

I am excited... I am overjoyed... I am jumping... no, i have not won any lottery. All I did was complete Term-1 at ISB. If finishing one set of exams could bring so much excitement, how am i going to manage 7 more terms!!

I cant think of what I have done for the past one week...Could not think of anything except exams... too much of stress that I was too tired by the time I wrote my last paper today. Yesterday, we had accounting and economics. Both were tough, but tough would be the most inappropriate word to use for the later course! By the end of yesterday, the whole batch was drained of all the energy to write exams. Economics paper has really set high standards of difficulty for us that any paper we write for a long time would be uncomparable to it!! Today's Statistics and Marketing were comparatively much better. But I was too slow and tired while writing the later paper and couldn't complete it. Its over... and thats all that matters... atleast for now!

To forget all the stress and relax, I watched the movie, "Jerry Maguire" in the evening... damn good one... the dialogues are amazing. Would love to see it again.
Term-2 begins next monday. I am going home tomorrow morning :) Looking forward for the good sleep!

Good, Bad and Ugly!

Sunday, June 05, 2005

I have no idea about what I am writing right now... I am totally out of mind! I have my term exams tomorrow and its been a real long time since I studied like this... don't know if I ever did. At this time, I have blanked out and so decided to take a break. Hope I am not insane by tuesday evening.

Well, if you are wondering what the title of this post means, its my answer for the most common question asked around the campus "How is it going"?
