The Power of Media

Friday, March 31, 2006

“Media” has more power than any institution in the country. This is one industry which has mastered the art of conquering human psychology and we humans never fail to fall into the trap!! Non compliance leads to doom because of the ignorance of the mass, exploited by the “news” hungry press.

May be there should be a course in the high school level for “Understanding Media”. The abuse of the words “could” and “may” in a way they get hidden among the “hot” words around… and the reaction to the same and the excitement that it builds up… have seen it before, have experienced it now… is there any hope for a 1 billion population to learn?

It just requires careful reading and interpretation rather than "sensational inference"!!
Dont blame media for doing what you do...the real cheating(and it happens very often) when that may or could is not even spelled out.

I guess both the post and the comment are "general" references to a "specific" incident. My only problem is why can't media wait. Why should it speculate on such issues when the correct news is just days away. This news is not life and death for anyone.

one needs to understand the political and corporate linkages of the media so that one can decide on the credibility of the media form.

the broad concept could be taught, but understanding has to come primarily from experience.

Why media jumps the gun? Because its their job..
What differentiates a newspaper from the rest if the same story comes out on a single day in ten papers?
Its calld "power of prior knowledge"
Had it been speculation then it wud not hv come out..
You wud get to know soon enuf when you get on with ur radio FM job!

    Anonymous AKA Vivek,

Firstly...You have done whatever you thought was right, but now you have gotten reaaaaly defensive about it. Forget it dude...the actual news will come out in a short while and hopefully you wont look too bad....its in your best interest to wait.

By the way...this is not the karthik with the FM radio station job...I think you jump to conclusions very quickly (Just like your report)

Whay are we all worked up about...well because it affects our institution's name and the way it is projected, it puts a lot of us under pressure. We do not want our B-school to be known as just a place for higher salaries, but as a great place to study, learn and build networks (you would know if you ever come down here!)

Well...My 2 cents on it.....after all this gyaan you will still do your job in the best way you know...but please do think twice before you publish anything sensational.
